Uzazi Village is focused mainly on the fight to decrease the incidence of extremely young infant death in African-American communities in Kansas City and its surrounding areas by promoting natural birth (preventing unnecessary c-sections), breastfeeding, childbirth education, and culturally congruent care.

Uzazi Village does this through peer to peer education and support models, population and culture-specific education, promotion of innovative prenatal care models that attract rather than repel, and that build up rather than penalize, and, empower women to create and implement their own reproductive life plans.

UV’s ultimate goal is to to decrease black infant mortality and racially-based perinatal health inequities.
